pepper's eating cat crap

you know how i like to lay it out in the subject line.

we turned ali's litterbox backwards in the coat closet but pepper is still finding a way to weasel her way in there and go foraging for cat scat. it's SOOO disgusting. we rarely let pepper be by herself for more than five minutes downstairs, out of her kennel but god forbid she goes outside, i let her in and go take a shower, sure enough i come downstairs and she has litter on her nose and half a "tootsie roll" on the floor in the living room.

the vet said move the litter box upstairs.

do you think she'll grow out of it or am i going to have to rip the carpet out of my master bath and put in tile so the gd cat can have a litter box upstairs?

p.s. i have pepper swimming video who can i text it to so they can post it??!! it's really boring but i'm one of THOSE mummas!!

my phone doesn't have video but i looked on facebook and it does video uploads. on your wall at the top next to "photos", "boxes", etc there's a "+" with a menu that includes videos and "mobile uploads" is on a menu on that page.

why do dogs like to eat gross things?? there was a comment in "good owners, great cats" about the author having to put the litter box in a closet with the door propped open just enough for the cat to fit but not the dog, but he had a large dog not a puppy. if you have to move the box maybe you could get one of those rubber or vinyl litter mats to put under it to save your carpet, though if it's a covered box i don't think there would be a problem anyway. i've also seen cute decorative privacy screens in catalogs if you don't want the box out in full view.

of course i had to find one of those screens to show you - they come in a choice of colors and patterns! i don't think it will do anything to keep pepper out of the box but it will make that corner of your bathroom look nicer if you've got to move it there.

spendy!!

so tres fixed up the coat closet with the instructions to the first link you posted!! it totally works except that he used a barbaric piece of wood to attach to the door and it looks a bit ghetto. but it served it's purpose and pepper has not been able to eat any of her sister's poop.

a million thanks,

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaan, I was totally hoping you'd get the ModKat thing but I suppose the closet makes more sense economically. But, uhm, do your coats stink like cat poo now?

well we couldn't move the litter box really because she knows where it is (she doesn't do well with change) and i couldn't really tell you if the coats smell like cat crap what with the loss of the sense of smell and my mom is constantly sticking a scent ball thing in there every time she comes over. when i change the litterbox every couple of days i shoot the closet with febreeze.

tres is still showing anyone who comes over his handiwork. i'm not sure if he's proud of himself or if he likes to publicly humiliate pepper.

well tres probably just likes showing off anything he's built - does he do that with other things he's done around the house?

as for smell - we've recently changed the litter boxes here from old-fashioned clay litter to "feline pine" and it works great for controlling odors (though part of that depends on how well the cats cover everything up). i hadn't planned on changing types of litter - have tried that before and the cats weren't happy about it - but the store didn't have their regular brand that day and while i was deciding what to get instead i saw the feline pine and thought why not, the bag of litter we had at home was still half full so i had that to use if they hated the new one - but they liked it just as well and i like it better for keeping the bathroom smelling better. it's nice to find something that's "environmentally friendly" that i'd buy because it's better and not just because i "ought" to do what's good for the environment.
